EL ARTE ABSTRACTO Y TERAPEUTICO DE LYGIA CLARK

Posted by LATINO EVENTS Y TESPIS MAGAZINE on Thursday, July 24, 2014 , under , , , , , , , , , , | comments (0)

Just brilliant. Is like entering a temple. Of Art, Creativity and Solace. Abstracto y Terapéutico...
The exhibit Lygia Clark: The Abandonment of Art, 1948–1988 comprises nearly 300 works, 1940s to the early 1980s, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and participatory works by the brazilian artist. This first retrospective of her work is organized around three key themes: abstraction, Neo-Concretism, and the “abandonment” of art. Each theme is 'anchored by a significant concept or a constellation of works'  that mark a definitive step in Clark’s career.

While Clark’s legacy in Brazil is profound, this exhibition aims to draw international attention to her work and reinscribe her into current discourses of abstraction, participation, and a therapeutic art practice. ( Don't leave without playing with a 'Bicho'!).

A 'Bicho'.
Lygia Clark: The Abandonment of Art will be on view until August 24.

About:
The Blanton Museum of Art and the Fundação Iberê Camargo (Brazil) are co-organizing The Nearest Air: A Survey of Works by Waltercio Caldas, the first comprehensive career survey of the artis. This exhibition will be the most extensive presentation of one of Brazil’s leading contemporary artists, featuring works from the 1960s through the present. The exhibition and publication will investigate Caldas’ key role in Brazilian art history and his importance as an international contemporary artist. Caldas’ rigorous aesthetic and subtle poetic sensibility can be seen as a continuation of the formal precision of artists such as Constantin Brancusi and the conceptual sophistication of influential artists as Marcel Duchamp. The exhibition will bring to light how divergent histories converge in and situate Caldas’ work as a critical point of encounter between Brazilian and international narratives establishing a larger and richer history of art.

INTERVIEW: BRUNO BARRETO ON 'REACHING FOR THE MOON'

Posted by LATINO EVENTS Y TESPIS MAGAZINE on Monday, November 11, 2013 , under , , , , , , , , , | comments (0)

Brazilian director Bruno Barreto was in NYC to promote Reaching For The Moon, his latest film. The movie tells the love story of two amazing and talented women: Pulitzer Prize winner poet Elizabeth Bishop and Lota de Macedo Soares, a brazilian architect responsible for the world's famous Flamingo Park.

Set mostly around Rio de Janeiro and NYC during the 1950's and 1960s, Reaching For The Moon is also a story of losing, of search and of redemption of a sort. How lives come together, interconnect, and pull apart no matter how much love there is in between. Or maybe precisely because of it. As the movie starts we see Elizabeth Bishop reading her latest attempt at poetry: 'The art or losing is not hard to master'... By the end of it, the poem continues to its end: 'even You'.... The Art of Losing is not hard to master'....indeed. Even if it takes us a long time to do it. Is just part of the fabric of life, of love and it is what draws Mr. Barreto to making movies: the investigation of human behavior.
Bruno Barreto explores it beautifully in Reaching For The Moon. The movie is out in selected theaters. Watch the interview below, or follow the link > TespisTV

NeoProgresistas: una mayoría en minoría

Posted by LATINO EVENTS Y TESPIS MAGAZINE on Saturday, June 20, 2009 , under , , , , , , , , | comments (0)
