ALREDEDOR DEL MUNDO EN DOS DÍAS CON EL NYT TRAVEL SHOW

Este fin de semana se realiza el 'New York Times Travel Show', el evento más grande en su categoría de Norteamérica. Más de 500 expositores representando a unos 150 países presentan las promociones y las novedades para el 2017. 
El show es el lugar perfecto para explorar y reservar con antelación y, a menudo con grandes ofertas, tus próximas vacaciones además de disfrutar, en 2 días, de una gira alrededor del mundo con eventos culturales y culinarios.
El show está dividido en estos 16 pabellones: Aventura, Africa, Asia, Australia/Pacifico Sur, Canada, Caribe, Cruseros, Europa, Familia, América Latina, México, Cruceros Fluviales, Sponsors, Productos/Servicios de Viaje, Bienestar/Wellness y EEUU. 



En lo que se refiere a América Latina, encontré a los grandes polos turísticos del continente, desde Argentina hasta México, pasando por Chile, Brasil, Ecuador, Perú, Panamá, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Cuba, República Dominicana, Puerto Rico,además de las islas del Caribe de habla inglesa y francesa (Jamaica, Guadalupe, Martinica, Bahamas, Curaçao, Aruba). La mayoría de estos países son representados por sus secretarías de turismo pero además cuentan con la promoción de docenas de agencias de viaje, aerolíneas y cruceros. 
Grandes destinos europeos desde España e Italia hasta los paises nórdicos. De Asia me encontré con Corea, Taiwán, Japón, China, Tailandia, Indonesia y Malasia, Nepal, entre otros. El continente menos representado es Africa, con solo Marruecos y Sud Africa y los siempre populares Safaris. 



Y, desde luego, el pabellón de los EEUU presenta a todos los estados de la unión y Nueva York en particular ofrece información de todo el estado. 
La experiencia es única así como la oportunidad de asegurarte una experiencia inolvidable a precios especiales durante la duración del show.

Parece mentira pero ya han pasado 15 años desde que nuestro apreciado Carlos Gutierrez & Co., se lanzaran a la creación de Cinema Tropical para llenar un vacío en la difusión y promoción del mejor cine Latino. Hoy, a manera de celebración, tenemos las 29 películas nominadas a la 6ta Edición de los Premios Cinema Tropical a lo mejor del cine latinoamericano en seis categorías!. A saber: mejor película de ficción, mejor película documental, mejor director de película de ficción, mejor director de película documental, mejor ópera prima y mejor película latina de Estados Unidos. Vaya desde estas lineas nuestras calurosas felicitaciones por este continuo y excelente trabajo, Cinema Tropical!.


Las 5 películas que compiten por el premio a la mejor película del año son:

El club (Pablo Larraín, Chile)(foto), Los hongos (Óscar Ruiz Navia, Colombia), Jauja (Lisandro Alonso, Argentina), La princesa de Francia (Matías Piñeiro, Argentina) y El blanco afuera, el negro adentro (Adirley Queirós, Brasil).

Las 5 nominadas a mejor película latina de Estados Unidos son:

The Book of Life de Jorge Gutierrez, East Side Sushi de Anthony Lucero, Mala Mala de Antonio Santini y Dan Sickles, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl de Alfonso Gómez-Rejón, y We Like It Like That de Mathew Ramirez Warren.

Los ganadores se anunciarán el próximo 20 de enero en la sede del New York Times en la ciudad de Nueva York. Los neoyorquinos podrán disfrutar de las películas ganadoras en el Festival Cinema Tropical que se llevará a cabo en el Museum of the Moving Image del 25 al 28 de febrero. OUTSTANDING LATINO CINEMA AT THE TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL: HIGHLIGHTS

These are the selected movies by Latinos or about Latinos participating in the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. The selection includes features, documentaries and shorts from the Americas and Europe. The Festival closes on April 26 so, do not miss the chance to enjoy at least one of these movies. And let us know, send us a tweet!. ALOFT, de Claudia Llosa.

In parallel narratives, single-mother Nana (Jennifer Connelly) has a mysterious experience at the hands of a traveling healer, years later her troubled son Ivan (Cillian Murphy) sets out in search of his now absent mother. Academy Award®–nominee Claudia Llosa’s (The Milk of Sorrow) decade-spanning family drama is a dreamlike rumination on faith, forgiveness, and family, set against an otherworldly frozen landscape. A Sony Pictures Classics Release.

VIAJE, de Paz Fábrega.

After meeting at a party, Luciana and Pedro spark up a spontaneous rendezvous when Luciana accompanies Pedro to a national forest on a work trip. Eschewing the fraudulent nature of traditional relationships, the pair explores the beauty in the nature that surrounds them as they indulge in the passions of their encounter and navigate the various meanings of commitment.

BARE, de Natalia Leite.

Sarah’s (Dianna Agron) mundane life in a Nevada desert town is turned upside down with the arrival of Pepper (Paz de la Huerta), a mysterious female drifter, who leads her into a life of seedy strip clubs and illicit drugs. Their passion inspires Sarah to break free of her past and seek out a new life of her own.


EL CINCO, de Adrián Biniez. 

Patón, with his fiery temper and aggressive play, is the veteran star of his city’s soccer team. When his transgressions land him a lengthy suspension, he considers retirement, while discovering a world that consists of more than just feet and fists. This coming-of-middle-age tale reveals the predicament of leaving the arena where you most feel at home.

LUCIFER, de Gust van den Berghe.

After being banished from heaven, an angel begins his descent to hell, only to unexpectedly land in a Mexican village where his newfound presence affects the villagers in strange and surprising ways. Inspired by the notorious biblical story, Lucifer is a mesmerizing, moving, and imaginative re-envisioning of the notorious biblical story, presented in director Gust van den Berghe’s own innovative aspect ratio, Tondoscope.
CHERZO DIABOLICO, de Adrian Garcia Bogliano.

Armed with a fine-tuned chokehold and penchant for piano sonatas, a wearied accountant breaks his mild-mannered routine when he kidnaps a young woman. What starts as a carefully calculated plan soon crescendos into his worst nightmare. A delightfully twisted black comedy, Scherzo Diabolico is the latest opus from director Adrián García Bogliano.


WONDROUS BOCCACIO, de Paolo and Vittorio Taviani.

Set against the backdrop of a black plague-stricken Florence, ten young men and women escape to a country estate where they spend their days telling different stories of love, fate, and resurrection. From legendary Italian directors Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Wondrous Boccaccio is a tribute to the stories that emerged from one of the darkest periods in Italian history, and the imaginations that quietly fueled them.


CARTEL LAND, de Matthew Heinemen.

A portrait of two men, both leaders of small paramilitary groups that police different sides of the Mexican drug war: one in the southern US and the other in Michoacan, deep inside Mexico. With unprecedented access, this film brings forward deep questions about the breakdown of order and entanglement of modern-day vigilante movements at a time when the government cannot provide basic security for its people. In Spanish and English with subtitles. A release by The Orchard.

GORED, de Ido Mizrahy.

Gored centers on Spanish bullfighter Antonio Barrera, holder of the dubious title of “Most Gored Bullfighter in History,” as he grapples with the end of his career. Captivating footage of past and present bullfights reveal Barrera’s tremendous passion for the sport, as well as his seemingly irresistible urge to confront death at every opportunity.


HAVANA MOTOR CLUB, de Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt.

Reforms have offered opportunity in Cuba but the children of the Revolution are unsure of the best route forward. For a half-dozen drag racers, this means last-minute changes to their beloved American muscle cars, as they prepare for the first sanctioned race in Cuba since 1960. Punctuated by a lively Cuban soundtrack, Havana Motor Club offers a fascinating glimpse at the resilience and ingenuity of the competitive spirit.

PALIO, de Cosima Spender.

Taking bribes and making deals is as essential as being a good rider in the Palio, the world’s oldest horse race. Giovanni, a young jockey, is up to the challenge when he faces his former mentor on the track. What ensues is a thrilling battle with the intoxicating drama that is at the center of Italian tradition.

THE WOLFPACK, de Crystal Moselle.

Everything the Angulo brothers know about the outside world they learned from obsessively watching movies. Shut away from bustling New York City by their overprotective father, they cope with their isolation by diligently re-enacting their favorite films. When one of the brothers escapes, the world as they know it will be transformed.

Este año encontramos una mayor selección y variedad de películas Latinas o con temas Latinos participa en el Festival de Cine de Tribeca, que también regresa a sus raíces en la zona que lleva su nombre. Aquí les dejo una lista rápida de las películas latinas participantes. Les traeré mas información a medida que las vea durante el festival. También les tengo un par de entrevistas con directores/talento.

A RAINBOW OF CHAOS AND CREATION: 10 SEMANAS POR ESTADOS UNIDOS

Ya les había comentado que me iría de travesías por el país por unas 10 semanas. Vaya que viaje!. Confío que hayan podido disfrutar de los eventos y las fotos, LAS FOTOS! fantásticas, que he divulgado durante el trayecto. Fue un viaje pensado como exploración y documentación de éste nuevo país que estamos construyendo todos, con el énfasis puesto en la realidad y la fortaleza de la comunidad latina (sobre todo a través de su quehacer cultural y artístico) dondequiera que estuviere. Y así fue. Con menos a más intensidad, dependiendo de factores como tiempo y recursos, vi de cerca la presencia y la influencia de los latinos en lugares tan apartados y diferentes como el norte de Illinois, Galena y Chicago; Albany, Madison, Wis Dells, Praire du Chain y todo el sur de Wisconsin, McGregor y Marquette en Ohio sobre el Rio Misisipí en su confluencia con el Rio Wisconsin y la gran Miami, para terminar mi periplo en la bella Tucson, en Arizona. Vi mucho y aprendí otro tanto. Y aquí en LatinoEvents, Tespis y Travesías les comenzaré a relatar mis 10 semanas por los Estados Unidos: Un Arcoiris de Caos y Creación.
