If I'm in town you will surely find me along Christopher Street taking some video or some pictures and enjoying the afternoon, laughing, cheering the marchers and celebrating the NYC Gay Pride Parade.
Is is always great to spend my afternoon like that. After the march I walk around the street fair, take some more pictures, go back home and start posting the images you are about to see.

And of course, plenty of beauty and art provided by the Highline itself. I am a neighbor and I try to walk along its path every time I can.
Sure I always find something new to ponder about or take a picture. Here is a look at what I've seen lately: Works by Ed Ruscha, Isabelle Cornaro, Josh Kline, Marianne Vitale, and more.
You can also time your visit with the ¡Arriba! Dance Parties at the HighLine. Get into some Latin Dancing on June 25, July 23 and/or August 27.

Gabriel García Márquez with a black eye. Rodrigo Moya © 1976
|
This is a special exhibition of 35 signed, gelatin silver prints by the acclaimed Mexican photographer Rodrigo Moya at its New York gallery staged to coincide with their participation in the prestigious Winter Antiques Show. This important exhibition is the first New York show dedicated to the work of Rodrigo Moya (Mexico 1934).
“The work of Rodrigo Moya dating from the fifties and sixties makes up a significant chapter in Latin American photography,” says Spencer Throckmorton. “This exhibition underscores his masterful use of light and shadow as well as composition along with his sensitivity to the people,” says Throckmorton. The photographer’s candid images run the gamut from the revolution leader Che Guevara to painter Diego Rivera and Venezuelan guerillas to street children. Moya was the only Latin American to cover the US invasion of the Dominican Republic and the battle for Santo Domingo in April 1965.

A great piece of Art that has brought me several times to Madison Square Park, Leo Villareal's BUCKYBALL is inspired but the work of Buckminster Fuller and will be on display until February 1, 2013. You can sit and contemplate as the sculpture changes colors, intensity and patterns surrounded by some of the most iconic buildings in New York and inside one of my favorites places in town.
Madison Square Park has positioned itself as a platform to exhibit some of the most provocative and inspired works of contemporary art. This time is New Mexico's Leo Villareal and his Buckyball. Stop by and enjoy! (All pictures by Alex Guerrero ®2012)
Here is a video as well for a closer experience or follow this link to see it on TespisTV > Buckyball video.
You can see the slideshow below or follow this link for more pictures > Buckyball.
More about the piece: Villareal's BUCKYBALL applies concepts of geometry and mathematical relationships within a towering 30-foot tall, illuminated sculpture. A commission of the Mad. Sq. Art program, Villareal's BUCKYBALL features two nested, geodesic sculptural spheres comprised of 180 LED tubes arranged in a series of pentagons and hexagons, known as a "Fullerene," referring to the form's discovery by Buckminster Fuller. Individual pixels located every 1.2 inches along the tubes are each capable of displaying 16 million distinct colors and will be specifically tuned by the artist's own software, creating a subtle and sophisticated palette to enliven the Park. Relying on LED technologies driven by chance, BUCKYBALL's light sequences will create exuberant, random compositions of varied speed, color, opacity, and scale. BUCKYBALL will trigger neurological processes within the brain, calling on our natural impulse to identify patterns and gather meaning from our external environment.
Through basic elements such as pixels and binary codes, Villareal allows for a better understanding of the underlying structures and systems that govern everyday function. As he builds these simple elements into a full-scale sculptural installation that moves, changes, and interacts, this work ultimately grows into a complex, dynamic form that questions common notions of space, time, and sensorial pleasure.

More than 150 photographs tell the history of Mexico in the last 100 years. Photography in Mexico presents selected works of many of the most influential photographers from 1920 to the present from the Collections of the San Francisco MOMA and Daniel Greenberg and Susan Steinhauser > Ends July 8 > SFMOMA > MEXICO.

About: Presenting a complex synthesis of art and politics, this exhibition explores Mexico's distinctively rich and diverse photography tradition from the 1920s to the present. It begins in the period following the Mexican Revolution, when international artists such as Tina Modotti and Edward Weston found creative inspiration in Mexico and, in turn, helped to inspire Mexican photographers like Lola Álvarez Bravo and Manuel Álvarez Bravo. Including photographs made for the illustrated press at midcentury and documentary investigations from the 1970s and 1980s, the exhibition concludes with contemporary examinations of social, environmental, and economic concerns both within Mexico and along its northern border. The selection of more than 150 photographs showcases works by Manuel Carrillo, Graciela Iturbide, Elsa Medina, Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, Mariana Yampolsky, and many more.

Total fun. Dancing at the heart of the parade, the Dance Parade NYC, that goes down Broadway from 23st Street, passes Union Square, keeps going on University Place and then turns left, dancing the way to Tompkins Square, where hundreds will gather and be merry.
This year I was in Union Square. These pictures were taken there, from the intersection of 17th St & Broadway down to 15th St & Broadway. The day was perfect, the music, great. And the variety of groups and people dancing the day away is always relaxing and inspiring.
Every year, the Dance Parade is the beginning of summer for me! Season's open!. See the slideshow below or follow this link > DANCE PARADE.
I got some videos as well. They will be published soon.
