CINE LATINO EN EL BAM CINEMA FEST + HIGHLIGTHS

La edición número 7 del BAM Cinema Fest está a punto de comenzar en Brooklyn. Con 35 producciones de realizadores independientes el festival sigue cimentándose como caldera donde se reconoce y se forja el talento independiente. En cine Latino, el BAM Cinema Fest nos trae el estreno de NASTY BABY (foto), la última peli de Sebastián Silva, así como también TANGERINE de Sean Baker; The Russian Woodpecker de Chad Gracia; y el corto de Pacho Vélez, Maryland Public Television Interviews the Reagans.
Solo he visto Tangerine. Aquí, con un iPhone, el director Sean Baker ha capturado deliciosamente, y frecuentemente con humor e ironía, una encrucijada particular de nuestro mundo: la encrucijada en donde se encuentran esperanzas rotas, esperanzas vivas, vidas atrapadas y vidas liberadas. Las travesías y vicisitudes de un grupo de jóvenes trans y lgbt (con la actuación de Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) e inmigrantes, con altas tasas de encarcelamiento, tráfico de drogas y prostitución. Si, la receta para el desastre. Y sin embargo, Tangerine haya el espacio en donde es la esperanza liberadora, es la incondicionalidad de una amistad a pesar de todo, es la risa, lo que hace que tanto caos no termine por devorarnos.

Sebastián Silva lanza su esperada Crystal Fairy en el IFC Center de NYC y esperamos pueda verse en otros cines del país. La actuación de Michael Cera ha despertado buenos comentarios así como el el tema de la cinta. Una película de camino y alucinaciones.


About: On a trip through Chile a boorish American expat named Jamie (Michael Cera) and three Chilean brothers plan to set off in search of the prized San Pedro cactus and its promise of beachy hallucinations. But in the previous night’s drunken stupor Jamie invites a free- spirited fellow American (Gaby Hoffmann) along on their mescaline-driven road trip, and her devil-may-care worldview gives them more of an adventure than any of them had bargained for.
