El Repertorio Español estrena El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera, la nueva obra teatral basada en la afamada novela de GABRIEL GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ.

El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera es una lírica obra teatral repleta de imágenes dramáticas que se enfoca en la extraordinaria historia de amor entre un hombre con inclinaciones poéticas llamado Florentino Ariza y una mujer sensual, práctica y evasiva llamada Fermina Daza. La acción de la obra atraviesa cincuenta años y la historia se presenta en una serie de escenas repletas de movimiento, poesía, canciones y momentos de exuberante dramatismo. Un audaz tour-de-force teatral para cuatro actores.
Escrita por Caridad Svich y dirigida por José Zayas, el mismo dúo que nos trajo las adaptaciones de Julia Álvarez, "En el tiempo de las mariposas" e Isabel Allende, "La casa de los espíritus".

Tanto Evita como Leap of Faith han sido nominados para los Premios TONY que se entregarán el próximo mes de Junio en el Teatro Beacon. Aunque las críticas no han sido cien por ciento halagadoras con estas dos obras, desde aqui les deseamos los mejores éxitos!
En Off-Broadway, El Repertorio Español continua con En el tiempo de las mariposas y El Quijote y el exitoso show Growing up González ahora se presenta todos los viernes y sábados en el Teatro Jan Hus. También, el Teatro Thalia presenta el estreno mundial de La Callas & Medea. Veamos:

“In The Time of the Butterflies” is the story of the courageous Mirabal
sisters (Patria, Minerva and María Teresa) from the Dominican Republic.
The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the
dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The ‘butterflies’,
their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960.
Based on Julia Álvarez’s popular novel, the martyred butterflies come to vibrant life in a warm, brilliant, and dramatic production by the talented duo – playwright Caridad Svich and director José Zayas– that brought us the critically acclaimed production of Isabel Allende’s “The House of the Spirits” in 2009.

Mariela
and José were once the golden couple of the Mexican artist
inner-circle. Together they built a family and an artist colony to host
friends like Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Rufino Tamayo. But now their
daughter has grown and run away, Frida and Diego are too famous to
call, and artistic inspiration has been strangled by isolation and
mendacity. Set in an empty artists’ colony in the Mexican desert in
1950, this mystery play reveals what happens to relationships when a
long hidden family lie is exposed.

Rasgos Asiáticos is a memory play that
takes place in the present tense as a story a Chicana of Chinese descent
tells her lesbian lover of her family history. Traveling between the
present and the past both in Texas and México, the play tells tales of
migration, racism, woman loving and hurting.

Mariela
and José were once the golden couple of the Mexican artist
inner-circle. Together they built a family and an artist colony to host
friends like Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Rufino Tamayo. But now their
daughter has grown and run away, Frida and Diego are too famous to
call, and artistic inspiration has been strangled by isolation and
mendacity. Set in an empty artists’ colony in the Mexican desert in
1950, this mystery play reveals what happens to relationships when a
long hidden family lie is exposed.

El teatro Pregones vuelve con su exitosa serie March Is Music, el Repertorio Español continúa con Mariela en el Desierto y El Teatro Sea presente el musical DC-7, The Roberto Clemente Story en el Puerto Rican Traveling Theater. Asi que pasen cinco años vuelve al escenario y Growing Up González sigue recibiendo buena crítica. La Micro Theater presenta Nocturnal Creatures y el Teatro Bar Times Square sigue en su misión de hacernos reír de lo lindo. Teatro Infantil? Por supuesto!. Veamos:

rápidamente desde un tugurio de Argentina hasta la residencia
presidencial como Primera Dama. Adorada por su pueblo como la abanderada

mundo, mientras que su codicia, descomunal ambición y frágil salud la
convirtieron en la más trágica. EVITA cuenta la apasionada e
inolvidable historia verídica de Eva, y nos deleita con algunas de las
canciones más hermosas del teatro, como "Don't Cry for Me Argentina,"
"Another Suitcase in Another Hall" y "High Flying, Adored."

This is one of García Lorca’s most elaborate, challenging and least
produced plays. It invites the audience to reflect on themes of
emotions, pride, sex and gender, as relevant today as when García Lorca
wrote the play in 1931, precisely five years before his death.

“In The Time of the Butterflies” is the story of the courageous Mirabal
sisters (Patria, Minerva and María Teresa) from the Dominican Republic.
The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the
dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The ‘butterflies’,
their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960.
Based on Julia Álvarez’s popular novel, the martyred butterflies come to vibrant life in a warm, brilliant, and dramatic production by the talented duo – playwright Caridad Svich and director José Zayas– that brought us the critically acclaimed production of Isabel Allende’s “The House of the Spirits” in 2009.

Su inesperada y trágica muerte en un accidente de aviación mientras se dirigía en una misión humanitaria a Nicaragua, fue un golpe emocional inconsolable para el pueblo hispano. La obra fue escrita y dirigida por LUIS CABALLERO, cuyos créditos en el teatro incluyen: LA LUPE, LA GRINGA, EL OLOR DE LA GUAYABA.
