Sin duda una de las preferidas, The Glass Menagerie es una de esas obras teatrales que te llega muy de cerca. Estudiando Inglés y Teatro en NYC, las obras de Tennessee Williams fueron leídas, actuadas y releídas, y Tom, bueno, quién no la leído y releído su monólogo?. Hoy es el actor latino Zachary Quinto a cargo de traerlo a las tablas de Broadway junto con la actríz Cherry Jones en el Teatro Booth. Y solo por 17 semanas!. Las críticas han sido estupendas.roadway

Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango, traces the colorful history of tango through music, dance and dramatic vignettes, features an all Argentine cast –14 dancers and a 11-piece orchestra. The 26-member Forever Tango Company includes world class dancers who utilize their own unique flourishes, each drawing from the wellspring of cultural inspiration offering unspoken insight into this mysterious and passionate art form. The orchestra is led by Victor Lavallén on the bandoneón, an accordion-like instrument imported to Argentina from Germany in 1886.
Sensuous and sophisticated, the tango inhabits a world where everything can be said with the flick of a leg, the tug of a hand, the tap of a foot and the arch of an eyebrow. Both beloved and infamous as one of the most sensuous of all dance forms, tango was born in Argentina at a time when holding hands was considered a scandalous development in social dancing. Tango was initially only danced in gambling houses and places of prostitution. Working women developed skill in the dance in order to attract customers; lonely men practiced the art in order to woo and impress the women.
It was the porteños, the Argentine men who created the tango craze – from the streets to the cafes, and from the bordellos to the great stages of Europe. The tango, which clearly became one of the most enduring and influential popular dance styles of the 20th Century, may well be Argentina’s best known export.
The dance developed as a prologue to sex itself, infused with the passion and personality of the dancers. Today, the tango’s influence can be found in a variety of dance idioms, including modern dance, jazz, and classical ballet.
According to creator/director Mr. Bravo, “The tango is a feeling that you dance; a story that you tell in three minutes – it is passionate, tender, violent.” He adds, “The tango represents so much more than just a dance: it is a music, a culture, a way of life.”

The Venezuelan director Moisés Kaufman comes to Broadway with The Heiress. A limited 18 weeks engagement at the Walter Kerr Theater.
THE HEIRESS is the story of Catherine Sloper, the shy and sheltered daughter of a prominent New Yorker. Caught between the demands of an emotionally distant father and the attentions of a passionate young suitor, Catherine must navigate the terrain of love and regret, desire and duty, a chance for happiness and the burden of fortune…as only an heiress can.

“In The Time of the Butterflies” is the story of the courageous Mirabal
sisters (Patria, Minerva and María Teresa) from the Dominican Republic.
The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the
dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The ‘butterflies’,
their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960.
Based on Julia Álvarez’s popular novel, the martyred butterflies come to vibrant life in a warm, brilliant, and dramatic production by the talented duo – playwright Caridad Svich and director José Zayas– that brought us the critically acclaimed production of Isabel Allende’s “The House of the Spirits” in 2009.

friends like Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Rufino Tamayo. But now their
daughter has grown and run away, Frida and Diego are too famous to
call, and artistic inspiration has been strangled by isolation and
mendacity. Set in an empty artists’ colony in the Mexican desert in
1950, this mystery play reveals what happens to relationships when a
long hidden family lie is exposed.

Los grandes ligas toman la cartelera teatral este mes. Evita por un lado y Leap of Faith por el otro, permiten al talento latino presentarse en Nueva York por la puerta grande: Broadway.

Esparza es la estrella en el nuevo musical Leap of Faith. Se unen así a
The Book of Mormon, otro musical con talento latino.
Ya Off-Broadway, El Repertorio Español continua con En el tiempo de las mariposas y el exitoso solo show Growing up González ahora se presenta todos los viernes y sábados. También un poco de Teatro Infantil, por supuesto!.

“In The Time of the Butterflies” is the story of the courageous Mirabal
sisters (Patria, Minerva and María Teresa) from the Dominican Republic.
The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the
dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The ‘butterflies’,
their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960.
Based on Julia Álvarez’s popular novel, the martyred butterflies come to vibrant life in a warm, brilliant, and dramatic production by the talented duo – playwright Caridad Svich and director José Zayas– that brought us the critically acclaimed production of Isabel Allende’s “The House of the Spirits” in 2009.

The play is a bittersweet comedy
of two brothers growing up in the Puerto Rican section of the Bronx,
whose coming of age is marked by the untimely death of their father. One
actor plays both parts. The play is filled with the hearty characters,
flavors and textures of The Bronx in the 70's and displays a very witty
understanding of life.
When four fabulous female friends reunite, the $#@% hits the proverbial fan: Gigi is pissed, Lucía is about to let her have it, Jesse has a secret she doesn't want her friends to know-- or does she?-- and Melanie's announcement is about to change EVERYTHING. A tale in which friends cling to each other for dear life and tear each other to shreds in the process. An inexplicable hole, a mysterious visitation, a cosmic happening... with dance breaks: BUSTED.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward furthering HOLA's much needed advocacy efforts on behalf of the Latino/Hispanic entertainment community.

Un espectáculo nos muestra sin pudor alguno, las intimidades de cinco féminas que atraviesan distintas circunstancias en la vida: la soltera ilusionada que busca velo y corona, la casada con el marido perfecto, la viuda liberada, la contemporánea que sólo quiere sexo, la frívola que sólo se preocupa por las líneas de expresión y la ley de gravedad, la envidiosa que quiere todo lo que tienen las demás y un hombre que nos cuenta la sencillez de la vida.

Mariela
and José were once the golden couple of the Mexican artist
inner-circle. Together they built a family and an artist colony to host
friends like Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Rufino Tamayo. But now their
daughter has grown and run away, Frida and Diego are too famous to
call, and artistic inspiration has been strangled by isolation and
mendacity. Set in an empty artists’ colony in the Mexican desert in
1950, this mystery play reveals what happens to relationships when a
long hidden family lie is exposed.
