In 1998, Matthew Shepard was tied to a fence, beaten, and left to die on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. He had been the victim of a homophobic hate crime that left the small town of Laramie reeling. His murder became a watershed moment in America, highlighting the violence and prejudice LGBT people face in contemporary society.
Meticulously crafted from hundreds of interviews conducted with the town’s residents over the course of a decade—including Matthew's mother, Judy Shepard, and his convicted killer Aaron McKinney—The Laramie Project Cycle is presented by Moisés Kaufman and members of Tectonic Theater Project. Pairing the company's acclaimed work The Laramie Project alongside its 2008 epilogue, The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later, this historic double bill examines a community's shaken self-understanding in the aftermath of tragedy and the temptation to rewrite history in the name of moving on.

At the hit Broadway musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood, you finish the story Charles Dickens didn’t! It’s the only show in town that ends differently every night, depending on what the audience decides. Stephanie J. Block (Anything Goes), Will Chase (“Smash”), Gregg Edelman (Wonderful Town), Jim Norton (The Seafarer), and Chita Rivera (Nine) star in this rollicking winner of the Tony® “Triple Crown” (Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score).
Take a trip back in time to a Victorian music hall where a rowdy ensemble of actors mounts a staging of Charles Dickens’ unfinished novel. Everyone on stage is a suspect in the murder of young Edwin Drood. Is it John Jasper, Edwin’s protective but slightly maniacal uncle? Rosa Bud, his reluctant betrothed? The debauched Princess Puffer? The ending of each performance is up to you!

* WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY > Enero 10 - Febrero 10 > The Play Company, in collaboration with Mexico City-based Por Piedad Teatro > WORKING.
WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY is a play inspired by Ettore Scola's 1977 Oscar-nominated Italian film (which starred Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni), and subsequent play "Una Giornata Particolare" about an overworked housewife and amysterious bachelor who meet on May 8, 1938, the day Rome celebrated Hitler's visit to Mussolini's Italy. Performed (in English) by Mexican actors Ana Graham and Antonio Vega in a singular performance style, the artists employ simple props to create a bittersweet human dramathat unfolds while a charged political landscape of rising fascism stirs outside their apartment windows.
A World Premiere tango musical with music arranged and directed by Latin Grammy winner Raul Jaurena! Produced, Designed & Directed by Angel Gil Orrios.
MAESTRO RAUL JAURENA was born and raised in Uruguay, and his music is inspired by his roots. His arrangements combine the traditional roots of Tango and Milonga with the rhythms and dance of Candombe, the voice of the African communities in Uruguay. His music reflects the influences of the different cultures as well as one hundred years of tango history with all its contradicting emotions.
CANDOMBE, also known as Tango Negro, is an African-derived rhythm that has been an important part of Uruguayan culture for over 200 years. It is what survives of the ancestral heritage of Bantu culture, brought to Uruguay by enslaved Africans. During colonial times, they called their drums tangó, and used this term to refer to the place where they gathered to perform their Candombe dances; by extension, the dances themselves were also called tangós. Candombe music uses three drums called “repique”, “chico” and “piano”. Tango developed simultaneously in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Although typically regarded as the creation of Italian and Spanish immigrants, the tango's music and the dance movements associated with it were deeply influenced by African dance and music.
Buglisi Dance Theatre's passionate dancing and sublime theatricality speak to the visceral strengths and vulnerabilities of humanity. Celebrating its 20th Anniversary season, the company will perform Artistic Director Jacqulyn Buglisi's signature works Requiem and Suspended Women, along with company favorites Caravaggio Meets Hopper and Rain. The two programs, with live music featured on both, also include three world premieres. This is Forever is set to a rhapsody performed live (on opening night) by composer Steve Margoshes;Snow Falling on Water, exploring the mystery and secrets of growing up in Brooklyn, is set to a tender score by Andy Teirstein that is performed live;Butterflies and Demons is set to music by Daniel Bernard Roumain; and a solo commission by guest choreographer Katarzyna Skarpetowska. Nacho Duato solo excerpts from Arenal are a season highlight.
For over three decades, the infectious Afro-Brazilian rhythms, pinpoint precision, and sheer power of DanceBrazil performances have astonished audiences around the world. This spring, the company returns to The Joyce with a premiere by Artistic Director Jelon Vieira and the return of Imfazwe, a powerful meditation on war, combat—and dance. As always, Capoeira, the mesmerizing martial art with an African beat, and live music drive the action on stage.
"Dancing better than ever" (Backstage), Ballet Hispanico celebrates its 25th season at The Joyce with a vibrant snapshot of contemporary Spanish dance. Program highlights include a world premiere by Cayetano Soto, one of the most dynamic and ground-breaking Spanish choreographers of his generation, and the Joyce premiere of an homage to 1980s Europop created by the cutting-edge Spanish duo Inma García and Meritxell Barberá. The Joyce premiere of Danzónby Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro and rousing repertory gems further showcase the multidimensional company. For more performances nationwide visit > Hispanico.

Come to Liz's apartment. Share your table with her and Ricard. He's a political activist and she isn't that innocent.
The play shows this interaction in real time. It takes place in an authentic living room and in this intimate setting; there will be no border between the piece and the audience, who participate in the performance as the invited "voyeurs" of the evening.
This is a play about idealism and human interactions, about the contrast between ideas and daily necessities. Ricard Neun is a Spanish social activist. He has defrauded 39 banks in Spain. He claims this is not a crime, but a general call for financial disobedience. He is travelling around America giving lectures about this "action". In New York he gives a talk and meets Liz, who invites him to stay at her place.

(The National Post) Wen Wei Wang collaborates with Montréal fashion design duo UNTTLD to reveal the full spectrum of the city at night—its private spaces, clubs, and streets—against a backdrop of darkness that bathes these spaces in light to evoke a refreshing perspective inspired by urban street life. The program also includes a new work by internationally acclaimed choreographer Barak Marshall, and Zero in On by Cayetano Soto, an innovative piece highlighting the Spanish choreographer's energetic style.
