8 MUESTRAS DE ARTE QUE DEBES VER AHORA EN NYC

Edited to update some closing dates.


Algunas de estas 8 muestras de primera, cierran en las próximas semanas. Desde El Museo del Barrio con dos muestras excelentes, pasando por la Galería de Americas Society y el Bronx Museum para terminar, también en el Bronx, con el show sobre Frida Kahlo que presenta el Jardín Botánico. Tanto el Museo del Barrio como el Museo del Bronx le han dedicado una muestra a The Young Lords de New York y su activismo en los años 60 por los derechos civiles para los Latinos. La artista colombiana Doris Salcedo se despide del Guggenheim; Sargent se despide en el Met Museum y From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires cierra en el MoMA.

Con más de 300 galerías para escoger, la variedad de propuestas presentes en Chelsea es inagotable y la casi segura presencia de artistas latinos en una o varias disciplinas artísticas siempre nos garantiza por lo menos una muestra a resaltar. ARTE : HONEY, I REARRANGED THE COLLECTION

Created in 1986, the Bronx Museum Permanent Collection has assembled over the years a remarkable group of artworks that convey not only personal narratives but also incisive insights onto contemporary life. For this exhibition, we took inspiration from Allen Ruppersberg's ongoing series Honey, I rearranged the Collection initiated in 2000 and that puts in check the role of institutions, curators and collectors as the bearers of tradition and arbiters of taste. Overlaying different traditions, styles, and narratives, Honey, I rearranged the Collection presents an idea of museum as a restless play of combination.
Honey, I Rearranged the Collection features artworks from the 40th Anniversary's 40 Years, 40 Gifts campaign, which has received support from Ford Foundation and the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Trust, as well as individual funders.

URBAN ARCHIVES: THE RITUALS OF CHAOS AT THE BRONX MUSEUM

This group exhibition, named after Carlos Monsivais' book of the same title, takes the work of Mexico's renowned photojournalist, Enrique Metinides, as a departure point and complements it with the work of contemporary artists who also capture the human experience in the metropolis. The photographs and video-based works provide a glimpse into the emotions and events that run rampant in cities where massive concentrations of people congregate, including notions of isolation and chaos. Guest curator Monica Espinel organized Rituals of Chaos. Featured artists include: Enrique Metinides, Sophie Calle, Robin Graubard, Gordon Matta-Clark, Rick Liss, Jamel Shabazz, and others.
