LA SEMANA CULTURAL DE LATINOAMERICA EN NYC

En estos momentos se lleva a cabo el festival que celebra la cultura de nuestros países latinoamericanos en Nueva York. El calendario es variado y va desde piezas de teatro a piezas de arte. Polly Ferman y todos los que participan en el Latin American Cultural Week reúnen, una vez más, el abanico cultural que nos hacen un continente tan rico y vibrante.



Eventos recomendados: el conversatorio con Jenniffer López y su nuevo libro 'True Love' en el 92Y; Juan Carlos Horcasitas Solo Piano recital; Art Exhibit & screening de los filmes de Tizuka Yamazaki; La muestra SELFLESS SELFIES en el NoMAAarts; El concierto WHIN Music Proyect: El Sistema en los Heights; varias presentaciones en el Instituto Cervantes del PLAY LOUD Music Fest; la instalación LIGHTING THE ROAD, de Nancy Saleme & Patricia Cazorla en el Terminal Central de Autobuses; y el estreno de SU NOMBRE SERA SU SOMBRA PARA SIEMPRE" (YOUR NAME WILL FOLLOW YOU HOME) en el Repertorio Español; añado además los conciertos: Latin America in Song y el Duo Cantabile. Un calendario repleto de eventos colmará la celebración de la 8va Semana Cultural de América Latina que se realiza del 14 al 25 de Noviembre. Muchas instituciones y grupos artísticos participan en diversos establecimientos culturales de la ciudad. Aqui tienen algunas recomendaciones:

- GUSTAVO MORETTO SEPTET
Tango, Jazz, Classical Music: Gustavo Moretto's Doctorate in classical composition from Columbia University and his love of jazz, brings tango, jazz and classical music with his new septet into a rich and very unusual mix, powerful and fun at the same time. Teatro La Tea.

YOUNG BRAZILIAN PIANIST ALEYSON SCOPEL
Mr. Scopel in his New York debut performs the world premiere of Almeida Prado's Celestial Charts XV, as well as works by Schubert and Mozart. Carnegie Hall - Weill Recital Hall.


* November 24

_ LACW Official Brooklyn Closing Event CANTOS DE VIDA NUEVA
Cantos de Vida Nueva features music by Chilean composer Javier Farias performed by the choral ensemble, KHORIKOS. The performance will feature video projections by New York artist, Sheri Wills and live dancing at Littlefield Performance+Art Space in Brooklyn.

- HEARTBEAT OF LATIN AMERICA/AL RITMO DEL CORAZON LATINO

Estampas Folkloricas Peru presents an amazing and unforgettable concert, with beautiful traditional dances, showing the variety of music and typical costumes from different regions of Peru. Queens Theatre.


- The 8th Annual Latin American Cultural Week Closing Event Event
Ballet Hispanico, The nation's leading Latino dance company returns to the Apollo stage, following last season's sold-out event. Reviewing last year, The New York Times wrote: "it feels like a tradition in the making. Premieres and an enthusiastic audience combine with the Theater's historic vibrations for a sense of special occasion." Highlights for this season include a seductive world premiere, inspired by the beloved Mexican celebration Dia de los Muertos, and the premiere of an all-male dance that turns a playful eye on stereotypes.. Apollo Theater

- DRESSING THE SCREEN: COSTUME DESIGN IN HOLLYWOOD
Two celebrated costume designers join us to talk about their careers in film. Delgado has collaborated with Pedro Almodovar and was nominated for an Academy Award for Les Misérables. Landis, also an Oscar nominee, worked on Michael Jackson's Thriller and curated the recent V & A exhibition, "Hollywood Costume." A signing of Landis's two most recent books will follow the presentation. Organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of Spain in New York. Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

- "INTERLACED MEMORIES BY "ANDREA ARROYO"

EDDY MARCANO Y CUARTETO ACUSTICO con PAJARILLO en #LACW NYC

El extraordinario violinista venezolano Eddy Marcano y su Cuarteto Acústico se presentaron durante la Semana Cultural Latinoamericana en NYC ( LACW ) y se han lanzado un conciertazo 'for the ages' interpretando su repertorio clásico y folclórico venezolano.
Eddy Marcano es uno de los grandes violinistas y directores venezolanos, reconocido además como uno de los principales exponentes del instrumento a nivel mundial. Como instrumentista es primer violinista de la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar, cargo con el que ha recibido las más altas condecoraciones. Es también considerado como uno de los principales exponentes de la música tradicional venezolana.
PAJARILLO es una canción del folclór venezolano que causa una conexión emotiva inmediata para cualquiera que ame la música y que ame a Venezuela.

Hoy es el primer día, de diez (10), para darnos un paseo por el vibrante mundo de las artes visuales, la música y el talento con raíces latinoamericanas.  La Semana Cultural de América Latina en NYC (LACW / Nov. 9-19) nos trae una cartelera repleta de buen teatro, música, arte y cine de varios países latinoamericanos. El año pasado disfrutamos sobremanera algunos de los conciertos presentados con grupos de Venezuela y Chile. Este año estamos seguros que LACW nos hará disfrutar de nuevo, y con diferentes propuestas, nuestras raíces latinas.
Para ésta 7ma edición, el equipo de Polly Ferman, fundadora de festival, nos tiene a artistas establecidos y emergentes que se presentan en varias instituciones culturales de la ciudad: el Repertorio Español, Carnegie Hall, El Museo del Barrio, El Instituto Cervantes y The Americas Society, entre otros.

Hoy comienza la 6ta edición de la Semana Cultural de América Latina en NYC (LACW) con un evento musical en el HIRO Ballroom de Chelsea y se extiende hasta el 17 de Noviembre con una cartelera de teatro, música, arte y cine de varios países latinoamericanos. Polly Ferman, fundadora de LACW en el 2006, y su equipo, agrupan en este festival tanto a artistas establecidos como emergentes y a instituciones culturales a lo largo y ancho de la geografía citadina, desde el Repertorio Español hasta en Carnegie Hall, El Museo del Barrio, El Instituto Cervantes, Queens Theater in the Park y The Americas Society, entre otros. Este semana cultural nos da la oportunidad de programar un paseo por el vibrante mundo de las artes visuales, la musica y el talento con raíces latinoamericanas.

PAMAR and the Manhattan Camerata Present, The Tango Fado Project
The Manhattan Camerata will feature special evening of Argentine Tango and Portuguese Fado, with the unique sounds of bandonen and Portuguese guitar. Although Tango and Fado originated in two distant countries, they are closely related in harmony, melody, and their themes. Its only exceptions are in the rhythm and language. The Manhattan Camerata invites you to explore the connections between the two genres with the music of Astor Piazzolla, Amalia Rodrigues, as well as original compositions by Lucia Caruso, Pedro da Silva, and Daniel Binelli.

Curated by Claudia Calirman and Gabriela Rangel, Antonio Manuel: I Want to Act, Not Represent! will be the artist's first solo show in the United States. Antonio Manuel (b. 1947) is one of the most important Brazilian artists of the 1960s and 1970s. The featured paintings, installations, films and photographs will highlight Manuel's significant role in performance and post medium art. In addition, the exhibition will emphasize Manuel's work as a powerful liberating force from political repression. A series of public programs will accompany this exhibition
