AMERICAS & AMERICANS FESTIVAL AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

“This festival is one that is meant to link us as a people so that borders dissolve, and we find those common threads and musical moments which unite North and South America as one. This is our music.” – Gustavo Dudamel, Festival Director.

Americas and Americans is a festival that celebrates music from North and South America and the shared heritage and cultural experiences across the hemispheres. With a long-standing belief that barriers can be broken through art, Americas and Americans brings to life Dudamel’s global vision of a multi-cultural community unified by music. One of the major events of his 2009/10 inaugural season at Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Americas and Americans now comes to the Hollywood Bowl in a week-long celebration encompassing a wide-ranging program that spans the musical spectrum.
Americas & Americans will take place August 14 - 19.

Posted by LATINO EVENTS Y TESPIS MAGAZINE on Thursday, June 28, 2012 , under , , , , , , , , , , | comments (0)

Children of the Plumed Serpent: the Legacy of Quetzalcoatl in Ancient Mexico follows the historical trajectory of the life and epic stories of the culture-hero and deity, Quetzalcoatl. The exhibition, taking place at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), examines the art and material objects of late pre-Columbian and early colonial societies across Mexico to explore Quetzalcoatl’s role as founder and benefactor of the Nahua-, Mixtec-, and Zapotec-dominated kingdoms of southern Mexico. These socially and culturally complex communities successfully resisted both Aztec and Spanish subjugation, flourishing during an era of unprecedented international entrepreneurship and cultural innovation. On view are painted manuscripts (codices), polychrome ceramics, textiles, and exquisite works of gold, turquoise, and shell that reflect the achievements of the Children of the Plumed Serpent.
