La séptima edición de la bienal de El Museo ha sido extendida hasta el 15 de Febrero. No pierdan la oportunidad de disfrutar obras realizadas por artistas, tanto nuevos como aquellos más avanzados en sus carreras, que trabajan y viven en la región metropolitana de Nueva York. La Bienal es una muestra colectiva, un proyecto de investigación cuyo propósito es entender mejor las condiciones bajo las cuales las comunidades artísticas producen, presentan y piensan a través del arte en nuestra ciudad. La Bienal está interesada en hacer conocer las condiciones bajo las cuales las obras de arte se crean y cómo éstas son recibidas por el público. Los métodos de los artistas y sus procesos son de importancia, al igual que el contexto en el que se interpretan. La Bienal de El Museo celebra los aspectos experimentales del arte contemporáneo, y apoya la idea de que esta producción constituye la historia del arte americano contemporáneo.
El título de esta exposición hace referencia a una cita de una fábula por Aesop, ‘The Braggart’, en la que un alarde sobre un salto resulta en un reto para repetir una hazaña particular: “salta aquí, salta ahora, aquí es donde tu saltas.” El lugar donde la hazaña puede ser recreada y el desafío resuelto—aquí—se convierte en el factor más importante del reto. El artista se convierte, a la vez, en el productor y el receptor, que recrea una y otra vez un gesto de comunicación con el espectador.* HERE IS WHERE WE JUMP > Hasta el 15 de Febrero en El Museo > Bienal.

La Bienal 2013, El Museo’s 7th biennial exhibition, features work by 37 emerging Latino and Latin American artists, from newly-minted to mid-career, who live and work in New York City metropolitan area. This installation of La Bienal is curated by El Museo Curator Rocío Aranda-Alvarado and Raúl Zamudio, an independent New York-based curator.
This year, La Bienal features Brazil as the special guest country. Our biennial guest country presents an opportunity for El Museo to remain in conversation with similar urban artistic landscapes throughout Latin American and the Caribbean, and expose our audiences to emerging artists in other locales.

Presencia, the most recent exhibition of work from El Museo’s permanent collection, focuses on ideas of presence and its antithesis, absence. This theme is explored through photography, painting, prints, drawings, masks, and other objects. The exhibition investigates the visibility and invisibility of the human form through the presentation of the body in literal and conceptual ways. The featured artists play with their figures, showing bodies revealed and obscured, evidently displayed or camouflaged.
