ARTE: PICASSO EN BLANCO Y NEGRO

- 'Mejor para nosotros', me dice Richard Armstrong, director del Museo Guggenheim unos momentos después de la presentación de Picasso Black & White a la prensa, cuando nos encontramos los dos como satélites, atraídos a la escultura de Picasso frente a nosotros (foto debajo).

- 'Mejor para nosotros' es lo que me dice con una sonrisa cuando le comento que siendo el B&W tan central en la obra de Picasso ésta muestra sea la primera mirada atenta a esta faceta del artista!.
- 'Le tocaba a Carmen hacerlo', asegura, refiriéndose a Carmen Giménez, la curadora de la muestra, que el pasado 4 de octubre nos presentó su visión de Picasso Black & White en la rotunda del Guggenheim.

Y Carmen lo hizo. Comienzas en la rotunda con un par de esculturas, y al comenzar te espera La dama planchando como apertura de la muestra. Una obra de 1904, año duro para Picasso en Paris, sin ni siquiera hablar francés y mucho menos tener dinero. Austera, dura, sublime, ese cuerpo alargado, esa desolación, impotencia y cansancio contenidos.... De allí recorres la producción artística de Picasso y su vida, hasta llegar a El Beso (primera foto), obra de 1969, voluminosa, ansiosa de vida, ahora al final de ella. (Picasso murió en 1973).  
Por ser un artista harto documentado, en Picasso entiendes cómo vida y arte son inseparables.  Magnífico Picasso!.

About the exhibition:

Picasso Black and White, the first major exhibition to focus on the artist’s lifelong exploration of a black-and-white palette throughout his career, will be presented at the Guggenheim Museum from October 5, 2012, to January 23, 2013. The exhibition features 118 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper from 1904 to 1971, and will offer new and striking insights into Picasso’s vision and working methods. This chronological presentation includes significant loans—many of which have not been exhibited or published before—drawn from museum, private, and public collections across Europe and the United States, including numerous works from the Picasso family. Following its New York presentation, a major part of the exhibition will travel to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where it will be on view from February 24 to May 27, 2013.

A SURREALIST PICASSO PLAY AT THE @GUGGENHEIM

The Guggenheim Museum is staging DESIRE CAUGHT BY THE TAIL, a rarely seen play by Pablo Picasso as part of Works & Process and the new exhibit Picasso Black & White.



While in occupied Paris in mid-January 1941, Pablo Picasso put down the brush and took up the pen for four days to write Desire Caught by the Tail. This rarely seen Surrealist play on the hardships of World War II was first presented on March 19, 1944, as a reading featuring artists and friends. On the occasion of the Guggenheim’s Picasso Black and White exhibition, on view October 5, 2012–January 23, 2013, Works & Process, with the assistance of Angela Westwater, founding partner of Sperone Westwater, will bring together a cast of artists for two special performances directed by SITI Company’s Anne Bogart. Enter via ramp at Fifth Ave and 88th St.

PICASSO y MARIE-THERESE : L'AMOUR FOU en la Galería Gagosian

La nueva exhibición de Picasso ofrece una nueva perspectiva sobre la obra del artista español que se centra en su relación con Marie-Therese, su musa y amante. 

María Teresa pensada y pintada 'under the spell of'  'L'Amour Fou'.  Desde que Picasso se encontró un día de 1927 con Marie-Therese en aquella calle de Paris y se le acercó, ella se transformó en su obsesión. Hoy, en Chelsea, disfruté el paseo por esa interminable obsesión con esta rubia imponente.  Marie-Therese, el centro del universo de Picasso. En la Galería Gagosian de Chelsea hasta Junio 25.
