Celebrating Puerto Rican Heritage Month with La Plenópera del Empache/The Belly Ache Opera
Saturday, December 18th at 3 pm

The Society of the Educational Arts, Inc. (SEA) and Teatro SEA @ Los Kabayitos Puppet & Children’s Theatre, under the artistic direction of Manuel A. Morán, as part of its 2008-2009 SEAson, is proud to present “La Plenópera del Empache/The Belly Ache Opera” by Leopoldo Santiago Lavandero. What you get when you combination Opera and Plena, an Afro-Caribbean music from Puerto Rico? A fun-filled farce sung with popular lyrics, which narrates the story of a gluttonous boy and the experience that changed his life. Furthermore, “La Plenópera” educates audiences on the cultural origins of historical and musical expressions of Puerto Rico, while making them laugh out load.
