Teatro en la gran Manzana: El Repertorio Español estrena la esperada obra teatral El Amor en los Tiempos del Cólera, basada en la gran obra de García Márquez y el Guggenheim Museum escenificará nada menos que DESIRE CAUGHT BY THE TAIL, una obra teatral inédita de Pablo Picasso y enmarcada dentro de su nueva exhibición Picasso Black and White. En Broadway, el director venezolano Moisés Kaufman dirige The Heiress en el Teatro Walter Kerr y se une a Evita y El Libro del Mormón en la Gran Via Blanca. En Off Broadway la obra Fuerza Bruta anuncia sus últimas funciones.Veamos:

While in occupied Paris in mid-January 1941, Pablo Picasso put down the brush and took up the pen for four days to write Desire Caught by the Tail. This rarely seen Surrealist play on the hardships of World War II was first presented on March 19, 1944, as a reading featuring artists and friends. On the occasion of the Guggenheim’s Picasso Black and White exhibition, on view October 5, 2012–January 23, 2013, Works & Process, with the assistance of Angela Westwater, founding partner of Sperone Westwater, will bring together a cast of artists for two special performances directed by SITI Company’s Anne Bogart. “In The Time of the Butterflies” is the story of the courageous Mirabal sisters (Patria, Minerva and María Teresa) from the Dominican Republic. The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The ‘butterflies’, their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960.
Based on Julia Álvarez’s popular novel, the martyred butterflies come to vibrant life in a warm, brilliant, and dramatic production by the talented duo – playwright Caridad Svich and director José Zayas– that brought us the critically acclaimed production of Isabel Allende’s “The House of the Spirits” in 2009.
