It was four decades ago in Detroit when Sixto Rodríguez recorded COLD FACT, his first album. A Mexican-American artist with an amazing voice, soulful  lyrics with a strong message.

For some reason he could't make it back then. Cold Fact was a flop and Rodríguez was forgotten here in the States where he kept on living working as a construction worker. Meanwhile, in Apartheid South Africa, Cold Fact became an anthem of resistance for a country looking for freedom and Sugar Man became more famous than Elvis Presley. Rodríguez never knew it until recently when he was re-discovered and brought back to South Africa. Rodríguez was received as a legend.

I had the pleasure of listening to Sixto Rodríguez LIVE (see pictures) at an exclusive presentation here in New York during the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival where Searching for Sugar Man, a documentary about his journey, was premiered. It was a very special moment for many there, some of whom remembered Cold Fact. For me it was a great and pleasant discovery!.

Rodríguez is back with a bang and we are thrilled he is. Don't miss the documentary Searching for Sugar Man or a Live show maybe in your city.

In 1968, there emerged from Detroit a charismatic Mexican-American singer/songwriter named Rodriguez, who had attracted a local following with his mysterious presence, soulful melodies and prophetic lyrics. Searching for Sugar Man tells the story of the greatest '70s US rock icon who never was, how he was rediscovered in South Africa and finally became the legend he always deserved to be. A story of hope, inspiration and the power of music.
