The 35th Annual Coldwell Banker Miami Beach Festival of the Arts is taking place on February 7th and 8th, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (both Saturday and Sunday) and will once again be located on the Ocean Terrace, east of Collins Ave between 73 and 75 streets. First established in 1974, Miami Beach’s oldest art festival is as fresh and laid back as North Beach, the eclectic neighborhood where it takes place. This nationally recognized event brings over 50,000 visitors, both young and old, to North Beach’s picturesque seaside promenade to browse amongst the fine art on exhibit while enjoying an array of performing arts and epicurean offerings.

Jorge Sori Fine Art presents its new exhibition featuring three contemporary artists from Latin America. Ivan Loboguerrero was born Bogota, Colombia. His art blends clean colors with shinning strokes which creates peaceful atmospheres. His workis rich in oil quantity and though elaborated textures, visual sensations are generated. With this horizon, the artist offers us his first dypitch, we understand what goes into his mind and color symphonies. Alejandro De Narvaez was also born in Colombia. His work includes both paintings and sculptures. In his paintings we see his many years of research into two dimensional expression. In his sculptures, we see his inspiration which is the geometry of the precolombian cultures, evoking historical memories of legendary civilization. Erick Sanchez is a painter and photographer born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1973. He brings us a series of paintings "Metamosphosis: Dreams and Memories". His work transports us to an ideal place full of hope peace and harmony. The viewer is transported to the outside world to see what the artist sees, and experience sensations that the artist has experimented.
Laberinto de Miradas (Labyrinth of Glances)
CCE Miami and MDC Gallery System present Laberinto de Miradas (Labyrinth of Glances). An art show, workshops and conferences invite us to a journey on documentary photography in Ibero America From Feb 5th through Mar 7th, 2009. The “Laberinto de Miradas” project consists of three itinerary exhibitions that will travel for more than three years around several Latin American and European countries, featuring the crossed views of documentary artists that work with social subjects. The central axis is to present the exhibitions along with workshops and parallel activities thus creating a social network project between the participating countries. “Laberinto de Miradas” wants to generate a current of information between all members of the Ibero American communities by means of a network project that exchanges images, ideas and experiences. Selected works for this first exhibition, that has already visited México and Antigua, include images by 39 artists that highlight the migratory and border concepts in a context that is becoming more and more globalized. The intention of these pieces is to generate a visual reflection on the amalgam of identities that melt in Ibero America and Spain, on the weakest minorities with the idea of potentiating and fostering their important role they play in their societies. Gilberto Santa Rosa and Víctor Manuelle will perform at the James L. Knight Center. The two salsa giants will perform this upcoming February 20th at 8 PM This concert series is called “La Historia Continúa” in honor of the first tour to bring the two Puerto Rican performers together

From February 12th through March 27th, the Miami Art Space presents Life in Cuba: Old Havana before the Hurricanes. A stunning exhibition of original photographs from Mr. Benowitz’s recent trip to Cuba, reflecting on the culture, poverty, occupations and history of this island nation’s people under Castro's rule, and the barrios and neighborhoods of Old Havana. The Exhibit features photographs taken shortly before Hurricanes Gustav and Ike wreaked their havoc on the people of Cuba, and Benowitz’s pre-storm photographs beautifully preserve the impoverished state of this beautiful little island on film.
