Tenemos una gran oportunidad de acercarnos a la actual situación de crisis española y al Movimiendo de Los Indignados (15M) que, tomado La Plaza del Sol en Madrid, lanzaron un movimiento mundial que exigía más y mejor democracia. Los Indignados españoles resonaron fuertemente en los Estados Unidos cuando surgen los movimientos Occupy Wall Street y Somos el 99%.
La crisis española continúa y ha desencadenado una crisis social de consecuencias impredecibles. Con un desempleo del 25% (50% entre los jóvenes), la ola de españoles que emigran a otras latitudes - en su mayoría jóven y preparada - sigue aumentando. Los destinos favoritos son los Estados Unidos y América Latina, pero también el resto de Europa y hasta Africa está recibiendo esta inmigración de la peninsula ibérica.
Esta serie de documentales y mesa redonda se presenta en el Centro Rey Juan Carlos I de la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU), Octubre 18 y 19. Para más información, visita: KJJC.

Measures to pull Spain out of its current financial crisis are failing to bear fruit and exacerbating social tensions. This two-day program, the first of its kind, showcases the Spanish crash from different perspectives: television journalism; a consulting firm’s video aimed at recruiting investors; a collective documentary on the 15M movement; and responses by a number of influential Spanish audiovisual artists. The program will end with a panel discussion by scholars.

- The Great Spanish Crash (BBC documentary directed by Alicia Arce, reporter Paul Mason) Spain / 2012 / 60 min / English and Spanish with English subtitles. An investigation of how the transition to democracy after Franco's dictatorship created a financial and political system that left the country vulnerable to catastrophe when the world economic crisis struck in 2008.
- Another Point of View (produced by Grant Thorton Spain) Spain / 2012 / 6 min / English with Spanish subtitles. Video produced by the consulting firm Grant Thornton Spain to encourage investors to come to Spain.

- Futures Market / Mercado de futuros (directed by Mercedes Álvarez) Spain / 2012 / 110 min / Spanish with English subtitles. A film essay in tableaux, Futures Markets traces the connections between memory, public space, and the real estate bubbles that led to the international financial crisis.

On May 15th, 2011, everything changed, or maybe nothing. Tens of thousands of citizens occupied streets and squares in Spain. 15M: Excellent. A Wake-Up Call. Important follows one such experience in Madrid.
